In automatic transmissions, the torque converter acts as a clutch and transfers engine power to the drive wheels. In addition, its role is to ensure a constant transfer of torque and speed to the drivetrain when starting off. The torque converter usually operates hydrodynamically. It transmits engine torque via the flow forces in the oil inside the torque converter.
A top-quality torque converter improves the shifting characteristics of the automatic transmission and dampens noise and vibrations. It is “in constant use” and must be fully functional. As with the automatic transmission, you must also ensure the quality of the torque converter and provide faultless operation.
